Swan Lake was established in 1969 with the acquisition of a 4 month old beagle puppy that later became Ch. Small Talk of Beagle Chase. After finishing many beagle champions, including the first 13" beagle to win the National Specialty, Ch. Swan Lakes Ginger Snap, a dream was fulfilled.

I had been wanting a smooth fox terrier since meeting a beagle friend’s bitch. To make things even more interesting, I thought it would be fun to import one. When meeting two beagle breeders from Australia, the opportunity to accomplish this became a reality. Lesley Funnel Hiltz and Liz Whitcher Rozbach found Meggs for me and two other beagle friends, Carroll Diaz and Julie Fulkerson. Lesley and Liz graciously did all the paperwork, etc. and Meggs arrived in March of 1987. We now had our "fun" dog and fun he was!!!! He became known as the smooth fox terrier owned by the beagle syndicate!

After following his successful show career, Lyle Fausett contacted me about breeding to Meggs. That letter of inquiry grew into a relationship that is now known as Swan Lake/Fox-Hy Smooth Fox Terriers.
